About

Hi, I’m Christopher Smith.

My apologies to Deion Sanders and Rickey Henderson, but I can’t bring myself to talk or write in the third person.

I’ve stumbled upon the honor of launching the first blog ever affiliated with the Samford Crimson. We’ll see where it goes.

I’ll be using this space to give you more informative and entertaining news and insight into Samford sports daily — that’s right, you don’t have to wait a week for the blog — and hopefully dash in some national stuff as well.

It’s football season, so you’ll hear plenty from me as Samford takes on Appalachian State and the other giants of the so-called “SEC of mid-majors” in the Southern Conference.

In the meantime, I’ll also be travelling to Nashville on Sundays to cover the Tennessee Titans and I’ll be in Shelby County Friday nights covering high school football, so I’ll be getting my share of the pigskin this fall.

I spent last season with DenverBroncos.com, living in Denver and travelling with the team, and this summer with TitansOnline.com. I was also the Timothy Robinson fellow with the Washington Post this summer, covering a variety of things including the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals, the WNBA and the Dew Tour (think X-Games but year-round).

I’ve also covered Briarwood High School football for the now-defunct Hoover Gazette and I was the sports editor for the Samford Crimson two years back. You may still find an occasional byline from me there.

I’m also working on Seeds, a devotional book for teenagers I hope to finish in the near future.

When I’m not writing, I like to be outside climbing, fishing, running, playing sports, dancing, singing or going on long drives, pretty much anything outside. I ran track at Samford for three seasons and I’ve become obsessed with climbing the 14ers in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado (over 14,000 feet in altitude). Other than being on top of a mountain, there’s no place I’d rather be than in the middle of the ocean with a pole in my hand and some fish in the cooler.

I don’t expect big things from this blog as I’m building its reputation, but I’d be thrilled with a comment or two here and there, so if it’s not too much trouble, feel free to peruse and give an opinion.

You can also e-mail me with feedback or anything else if the muse strikes at cssmith2@samford.edu.

**Note:** The majority of the blog entries are partial. If you click on ‘read the rest of this entry’ at the bottom, you’ll see what I mean.
